Mid Century Glendale Home(s)

We are blessed, this week, with some of the coolest Mid Century homes to hit the Glendale Home market in years.   I am positively giddy to tell you all about them- they are that cool.  First up, naturally, is my own listing at 1717 W. Mountain.

Known as the Brockway House, this was home to a family of local historical note.  the Brockway family owned and operated Crown Coach, manufacturer of school buses and fire engines for Los Angeles County.

The home is sited on 24,394 sf of usable land just a few dozen feet from Brand Park.  Designed and built by the elder Brockway in 1954,  it features some of the most cutting edge technology of it’s day.  There is a built in media wall with reel to reel, turn table and “juke box” player.  Master Control light panels in the kitchen and master bedroom control every light in the house.

This classic, single level Mid- Century ranch home retains it’s rich vintage detail.  The open floor plan is designed to make living easy and entertaining even easier with huge family room featuring original cork floors, wet bar and a wall of glass doors leading to a protected lanai.  The large pool and spa area also features a  gas BBQ and a fire pit.  Boys (and girls) with toys will revel in the extra large 3 car garage with 2 separate workshops/storage rooms and RV parking.  The orchard is the urban gardener’s delight, with over 32 common and exotic fruit trees.

The home has 2600 sf of living space and includes 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, family room, lanai, pool, spa, formal living and dining rooms, oversized 3 car garage and large orchard.  List Price is $1,250,000.

Next post… the Daly House. Stay tuned.
